Paternoster – This little town is one of the oldest fishing villages on the West Coast of South Africa, 145 km from Cape Town. Known for its lobster and white-washed fishermen’s cottages, during spring wild flowers grow everywhere.

Springbok, the largest town in the Namaqualand area, a stopover on the way to Namibia. This town’s copper mining history, connection to the Second Boer War and extensive flora are some of the things that make it interesting.

1 Night in Naries Namakwa Retreat (4*)

Namakwaland wild flower season is famous, but Succulent Species can always be seen plus Springbok; Oryx Klipspringer, beautifully coloured beetles and butterflies! Naries has 3 luxurious, tastefully decorated Mountain Suites with en-suite bathrooms, free-standing fans, electric blankets, Tea/ Coffee Stations and small Bar Fridges. Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa, 160 km long, 27 km wide and about 550 meters deep. This dramatic, 500 million-year-old geological wonder is one of Namibia’s top tourist destinations.

2 Nights in Canyon Roadhouse (3*)

Quirky Canyon Roadhouse has rusty old Chevys and Fords from a bygone era dotted around. A truck reception desk welcomes you. The restaurant tables sit between classic vehicles. The cabs of several cars serve as fireplaces in winter. Stay in 1 of the 24 colourfully painted rooms with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee facilities There is a swimming pool, veranda, bar and curio shop. Take a guided excursion to the canyon viewpoints, hike or take the 4×4 drive to view zebra and wildebeest on the grassy plains.

Aus, a settlement in southern Nambian the Aus Mountains. Formerly the site of a South African established WW1 prisoner-of-war-camp for Germans.  The area west of Aus is noted for its herd of feral horses. 

1 night in Desert Horse Inn (3*)

Stay in 1 of the 30 burnt orange-hued, late-century-styled farmhouses, which have en-suite bathrooms, air-con and tea/coffee facilities.  Enjoy the bar, visit the curio shop or relax at the unique horseshoe-shaped pool. Enjoy a 3-course meal in the restaurant, take a scenic drive or desert tour, hike or mountain bike, see WWI ramparts, an old Hudson motorcar riddled with bullet holes from a diamond smuggler shoot-out, spot springbok, oryx and klipspringers or view the wild horses at the Garub waterhole.

drive from Desert Horse Inn to Sossusvlei Lodge

Sossusvlei a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes, located in the southern part of the Namib Desert. The pan and the surrounding area are one of the major tourist attractions of Namibia.

2 Nights in Sossusvlei Desert Lodge (5*)
